Hey guys. I've never painted before, except for small stuff with aerosol cans, but I've always wanted to be able to do better stuff, I've just never had the tools. All I need is just something for very light hobby work, although that normally will involve work on my car, so I do want to be able to get good results.

I bought an HF 43430 purple gun for really cheap, and have yet to receive it, but the more I read, the more I'm thinking that I might want to get a little bit better of a gun. I know I won't regret buying the HF, because if nothing else, I can use it for small oddjobs that I don't care much about (stuff not on my car). My question is, from anyone who has used this gun before, is it ok? Do you think that with some patience and practice I'll be able to get by with it and make it look good? I've read that with some better tips, particularly ones for a Porter Cable gun that fit the HF, it flows a lot better and does a much better job. FYI, a lot of the stuff I want to do on my car would be using chrome paints, either Alsa's Mirrachrome, or more likely HOK's Kosmic Krome.

I've really been looking into the Devilbliss Finishline Master Kit. I've read that it's a pretty decent gun, and at $220, that's probably the upper tier of what I'm willing to spend, so please don't tell me to go for a Iwata or Sata highend gun. Remember, I'm not trying to be a professional here, I just want to be able to get some good results for my money's worth, and I'm willing to practice and be patient with this. Any opinions on the Finishline, especially versus what could be done with the HF? I like the fact that the Master Kit comes with 4 different tips.

Another Devilbliss item that I can't find much info on is the DEV802416. It comes with 1.3, 1.5, and 1.8 tips, and unless I'm mistaken, it's the same gun as in the Finishline Kit. I've found it for around $135. Any opinions on this? I've had trouble finding individual tips, or maybe I just haven't been trying that hard, but if I feel the need to get a 2.2 tip, I think I'd much rather just go for the $135 kit upfront.

Thanks for any information guys.

If you are gonna spray "chrome" type products you'll need something with a small tip or really learn how to control something else.

Have you considered ebay?

Red Baron, thanks for the advice on using a small tip to spray chrome stuff with. How small would you recommend? Yes, I've been using Ebay and Google product search.

Thanks for the link, OutLawd. I'm not sure if I want to spend quite that much though. Do you get pretty good results using that?

I asked Craig Fraser about spraying chrome products, and he said that he can never really get it to turn out well over large areas, and that he mainly uses it for small detail work. I don't know what constitutes a large area, but I'm mainly wanting to paint my b-pillars, and the back part of my rearview mirrors.

Why do you guys seem to prefer airbrushes over HVLP guns? I'm just curious.

I got the HOK Kosmic Krome Video with Craig in it.... I used the Lph-50 with it choked down and did light "mist" coats with great sucess. Think I got my gun for like 180 sumthing from that site.....

A 0.5 seems to be working well for me.

You'll have no problems getting those parts "chromed".
