that coating just sucks to sand, sand it with coarser grade like 200 or 300, sand it just enough to the primer, and reprime and guide coat it, sand and do the basecoat, but thats for fiberglass or composite helmet, not polycarbonate one

i just got one of those too.

i was wondering with that texture on the helmet already if it was enough to paint right on it after a good cleaning.

was also considering a light scuff then going to town just as if it was gloss.

did free hand and templets on one of these awhile ago and it worked out well.

more advice on this stuff (what is this stuff anyway) would be great cuz more mx helmets seem to be coming this way lately.

You could try geting it off with a 3m scuff pad. The open texture might help stop it from clogging like mad....

if I am correct, it is like an Alsa Soft-Feel clear. I think you just prep it normally, but I'm not positive.

If it were me, I would prep it, then clear it then work off of that hardened clear. If the guy wants it flat again, get the Alsa soft feel clear. What system are you using?

If I am not correct on this, I apologize. Anyone with more experience on this?

I would use a stripper of some sort to strip it, but not like an aircraft stripper, maybe a urethane bumper stripper.
