Is this the same stuff that you get at an auto-paint supplier (for more $)?

no, you'll end up with massive amounts of residue being transfered if you're spraying urethane.

Not only is it different, but I would stay away from buying any automotive grade tape from the big warehouse stores. They buy large volume, and keep the stuff in stock too long. People don't realize that the tape you guy at Home Depot, or Kragen, has been sitting for months, sometimes years. Automotive grade masking tape has a shelf life, so you want to get it from a company that gets it directly, or at least close to the supplier. Your autobody shop probably is only 1-2 distributors from the manufacturer. (Plus who do you think buys the rejected, or old tape that has been sitting around forever?) This is another reason to watch out for the big distributors, as well as a lot of the discount mail-order houses. If you see a price that is too good. It is probably going to cost you in the longrun. Personally I don't see why some of the bigger ones charge more,...If you look at the condition of the tape you can see what I mean by "Old".

Good luck.

Thanks, just trying to be thrifty. Penny wise and dollar foolish. I'll get it from a paint supplier.
