I have a helmet job for a customer and it's one of them super-plastic-vented Shoei ones. It's almost got more plastic than helmet and only a couple of tiny vent holes. Man, I hate these things!

Anyway, I'm not too concerned with painting the helmet. It's a simple design and I've got adherto for the plastic. My concern is with the clearcoating. I have to send it out for that and I am worried about all the moving parts getting "stuck" shut or, even worse, cracking the clear when they get moved for venting. Any thoughts on this, or suggestions? How about a reason not to worry (I won't hold my breath for that though hehehe!).

Thanks guys.

I agree,...vents suck. (no pun intended,...) I usually try and find out if the helmet company makes the transparent vents for that particular model helmet. The transparent ones go with any color. I have also in the past designed a graphic to coincide with the original color of the vent, to allow me not to paint them. This is the best suggestion, that I can give you. Clearcoating them will cause problems in the longrun, if not sealing them off permanently in the short run,...hehehh.

I always sand (600 wet) the vent a little bit to remove some plastic, that way once you get a clear coat build it still has tghe room to move without shaving the clear off or getting stuck. just an idea to try I havnt had a single problem yet.
