Hi everybody,
Been busy but, I'm back. I have a question about my Eclipse HP-CS. I've had it for about a year and the plating / chrome inside the paint cup is coming off. It has come off about 1/3 of the bottom of the cup, all the way down to the brass. I only use water base paint (Createx and Medea) and always keep it clean. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Paul

not normal, i would go back to where you bought it.

how are you thinning your water based paints?
A product with amonia? Other threads have referenced amonia being harmful to the chrome plating.

I use only water to thin and Medea airbrush cleaner in it.

That obviously indicates a defective plating, return it to the seller. There must be pores or pinholes in the chrome layer that allow fluid to penetrate to the brass and cause corrosion. And yes....ammonia or anything else that has an alkaline nature will cause problems with chrome platings IF the underlying copper or brass is exposed to it. Ammonia will react with copper by forming a soluble complex salt and corrode it so the crome is released and starts peeling off.

i had this too..what my problem was, Dimentia/Alzheimers....
I put my airbrush in the Airbrush Restorer, and forgot about it over night.
that really sucked. I noticed it's a slight orange/color to it, so I ended up using it for a while without problems, but got a new one just in case.

Not sure if you use that stuff...but only use it for a short time...and then rinse it off, wipe it out, dry it off, and make sure you put on the lube/oil on the needle and trigger parts to keep them fresh.

Not sure if yours is for the same reason..but it seems that's what messed mine up.

I had the same problem. I was tired and I called it a night. In the morning I found I left the AA paint in the brush. After cleaning I had the same result as you did. I didn't have the time or the money to get a new airbrush so I kept using it without any problems. Since then I replaced that airbrush. My dughter is using it now to practice with. When I'm done with a color I make sure I clean the airbrush so no AA is left in the brush!

i'd call up Iwata, direct to the source and see what they say.

I agree with SeanOzz. You need to go back to the manufacturer, you wouldn't bring a year old computer back to Best Buy would you?
Im surprised Iwata doesn't have a rep here, since there seems to be no issues with companies representing themselves.

Well... I contacted Coast and asked them what the deal was. They said it is just a cosmetic issue and not to worry about it. It won't cause any problems now or in the future. They also said don't use straight Windex (ammonia) and keep it clean. I have been dealing with Coast airbrush for years and believe their advice / recommendations.

So, if you do have an airbrush with some of the chrome missing "KEEP ON SPRAYING".

Thanks for all of the input!

The inside of the cup is not fully prepped for the chrome, and what is on there is only residual at best. Ammonia cleaners will remove chrome the fastest, but the chrome in the cup always wears down in time. Don't worry about it. All of my Iwatas have zero chrome in the cups, especially my 15 year old customized HP-C, and it is still going strong.

Thanks Craig, my worries are over.

Quick question I just got a Iwata Hi-Line HP-BH (I've been drooling over these since they came out). Can you give any pointers for best use of the MAC valve and the airbrush in general?

Thanks in advance...

Hmmmmmm. Adjust Mac valve until you get desired results??? hehehh. It is pretty self explanatory. Personally, I set my compressor for my eclipse CS kustom at 35-40 PSI. Then I can dial down my HP-CH Kustom, and my Micron C+ Custom's Mac valves to accomodate the lower PSI. Good luck. Killer guns.

Ok...Ok... I get it, It's not the "wand" - it's the "wizard". I was just hoping for the secrets to ultimate success. That's pretty much the way I set up.

See you at the next Kustom Kulture Show.

Thanks,
Paul

I had a glass company tell me that ammonia attacks the plating on the mirros so if you see delamination around the edges of a mirro that it!
