I am going to be painting a Buell, the customer wants flames painted over the original red basecoat. What would be the best approach for this? Would you use an adhesion promoter like if you were changing the base color, and if so what would be the process, would you lay out the flame design, use adhesion promoter then lay down the base for the flames followed by back masking the flames, followed by adhesion promoter on the rest of the bike, then unmask the flames and clear? kind of confused, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,Corey.

you better check to see if those panels are painted or color injected if it is a newer buell they are injected on the buell i did i painted the panels then laid up the artwork i used a ppg plastic prep product not sure of the name but it is a multiple step kit (i beleive 2 or 3 step). you basiclly just wipe on wipe off then scuff with red scotchbrite pad then business as usuall

Hello nunk, the panels are color injected im pretty sure. HOK tech mannual says you can wipe on ap01 like the ppg stuff your talking about. my hold up though is the customer wants the original base to stay so if you wipe or spray on the ap01 can you tape right over the ap01 with out it lifting when you peel the tape off after spraying the graphic? Most things i read also say put on the ap01 and go to town like normal, so i guess i will give it a shot and see what happens. thanks for the input nunk. Corey
